Decision makers rely on data to push forward community change. Data can also be dry and misleading and rarely do we see how data points intersect and impact each other. This arts based activity engaged decisions makers with data in a new way. Using a low-pressure paint squeegee art method, participants were taken through a data story which had corresponding directions to add dots of colour to reflect different data points. Once the story completed, participants used squeegees to drag the paint dots into a mosaic. The final product reflecting the different data points that make up the story around women’s homelessness and housing needs in the community. The uniqueness of each canvas reminds us about how all this data interacts in the community to create highly individualized and unique experiences. The completed canvas art was put on display in a newly launched affordable housing project for mothers with children.
