Network of Neighbours is a free online training program designed for caring community members who want to gain knowledge on gender-based violence (GBV). The training is two hours in length, including information on what gender-based violence is, how to spot it, the theories that inform it and five strategies that can be used to step up and support someone experiencing violence. The strategies presented are bystander training, harm reduction & allyship, prevention conversations, safety planning for fleeing violence and calling law enforcement and people of safety.
The process to build this curriculum included an environmental scan, literature review on best practices, as well as key informant interviews. Unique to this training, is the emphasis on harm reduction and allyship approaches to GBV that can be used everyday to reduce the impact of existing violence in between attempts at larger interventions.
