About
Making change takes a community

For over 15 years I have been working in and with non-profits, creative industries and social enterprises, to build the change they want to see. From small grassroots art projects that connect communities, to million dollar funded interventions that completely change lives. Over that time, I’ve come to embrace being a renaissance woman, someone with many talents and knowledge areas. It wasn’t intentional that I found myself here, but over time, as I weaved my own path of ‘doing good’, I found myself needing to develop different skills in order to move past hurdles in my work. This brings me here, to Pineapple Flags, where I get to use asset building approaches to help some of my favourite organizations achieve the change they wish to see. This is all about building opportunities to work past barriers and impact the world in a way that has legacy.

Pineapple Flags is for all the programs and interventions that need more funding to reach their true impact. It’s for bold new ideas that need to be operationalized, and for the organizations that get overlooked because their social impact is quieter than those of their peers. I’m here to facilitate the hard conversations, that often get avoided, through expressive and arts-based activities and to support communities who need the arts to help build their collective identity. But more than anything, Pineapple Flags is here for all those great ideas that have yet to be ignited, that sit shelved in the backs of the minds of community leaders as aspirations for ‘one day’. To those folks I say, “It’s time! Let’s build this together.”

“If you are looking for a community-based researcher who understands the ethos of working with equity-seeking populations and more importantly knows how to walk with individuals in ways which are respectful, Jen fits the bill.  Moreover, she is also extraordinarily creative and can use her talents as an artist to engage in innovative ways in community development strategies both within and outside of research projects.  She is a most talented individual with a strong work ethic who will get the job done”.
